PONT AVEN, the town of artists

The commune of Pont-Aven is close to the Atlantic coast, bordered in the east by the Aven River. The small town of Pont-Aven is located on the banks of this river, at the point where it widens into an estuary.
Here, the river snakes around enormous rocks before meeting the sea. In the past, the water from the Aven powered many watermills in this small town, which were at the origin of the saying: Pont-Aven, ville de renom, 14 moulins, 15 maisons (Pont-Aven, town of renown, 14 watermills, 15 houses).
